Default Monterey Bay

OK, it wasn't me doing the yaking, however I did see 3 yakers fishing the kelp off Pacific Grove near Monterey. Since there are no kelp bass up there, I was curious what they caught. They told me it was good action on the blue rockfish, grass rockfish, cabazon, and gopher rockfish and had nice stringers to prove it. Heck they were less than 50 yards off the beach, fishing the kelp with squid. Will have to remember this for future central coast trips, but its a long was up there.

I dove San Luis Obispo county for many years (almost daily) and there are wonderful fish in less than 10 feet of water. In fact there is what is called "poke pole" fishing with a broom handle and about 12" of wire with a hook on the end.

The only kayak problem is when the big wave comes unexpectedly and you get rolled or actually hit bottom as the water is sucked away into the wave.
