Default 9-2-07 Dana Sleighride!

Nobody could go yesterday so I did a solo trip outta Dana Point! Highlight of the day was a sleighride of more than half an hour, being hauled around the harbor mouth by a 53" leopard shark. Estimated weight 35-40 lbs. I have no idea, but heavy! Nate and his buddy were nearby on a powerboat. They usually fish on a Cobra triple. They landed the beast in the powerboat . First, they used my Promar net, and it broke into two pieces. So then they landed it in their net! I handed them my halibut tranquilizer, and they calmed it down and dropped it into my A hatch! Thanks a million for helping, guys! I apologize for the poor quality of the pic. It was dusk and the photographer didn't get the flash working. Also, the lens was a little foggy! This shark drew a large audience at Baby Beach. Three or four people wanted to buy it! No sale!

Here's a better pic!

Yesterday was the new yak's baptism of fire! It performed flawlessly. I noticed that the bait barge was lots closer to Baby Beach than when I used to go in my Fish n Dive! So was Doheny! The new ride now has blood inside in out! Here are some higher quality pics of the Marauder in racing trim on the beach next to the rental Cobras!

A Ferrari surrounded by Fiat 500s!

31" wide, 14' 4" long makes for a faster easier ride!

Hope you enjoyed this mini-adventure! Jerry/Piranha

I need some advice. I am a rookie when comes to the use of a Kayak but I just bought a Malibu Mini X so I can use it for fishing. My question is, if I'm only going to use my Kayak in fresh water what type of clothing do I need to be wearing? Do I need a wet suit? The coldest the outside weather I will be in on a fresh water lake is around 45F in the early morning. I don't want to waste my money on purchasing unneeded clothing, HELP?
Hey great Leopard! I also caught one this past Sunday at the Alameda Rock Wall here in the Bay Area, mine was 40 inches about the same size. Unfortunatley I was on land!
Thanks, Cisko

Thumbs up Re: 9-2-07 Dana Sleighride!

Cisko,
That's a hard thing to answer because some folks get colder than others do everything else being the same. If you want to buy the least possible, you may think about getting some board shorts or long nylon pants that protect your legs from the sun, then maybe some waders you could wear when it's colder. You may also think about some NRS Rodeo Pants which are neoprene wetsuit bottoms that come to the waist. That way you can layer your torso and remove some clothing as it heats up. Just a thought,
Perry

Jerry,
Thanks for the report as always. Congrats on the shark and fishing in the new kayak. Hopefully I'll be taking mine out again sooner than later
