Sierras Trip - Bassin' & Troutin'
SHORT VERISON Over 100 bass and 150 trout in 6 days of fishing LONG VERSION: First few days were spent in the Owens Valley tubing the ponds for a decent bite on LMB. Lots each day with the biggest around 3lbs. The boys also "slayed" the bluegill each day!!! 7am the first day - lookin' fishy Ryan scored a nice one right away Not to be out done, little brother hammers away I guess I gotta get in on the action Plus a few other random fish When fishing slows, we capture other "wildlife"!! Next we hit up North Lake, on our way up to Parchers Resort. Got lots of nice Brownies, Brookies and Rainbows Approx 50 fish the first day up here Next 2 days it was trout fishing on South Lake. 35 fish the first day and 60 fish the second day. Day one I managed the Trout Grand Slam, catching rainbow, golden, brook and brown trout on the same day. Day two we caught a ton of fish including this nice 4lb 11oz rainbow In between all the fishing we did manage a few cool hikes. This one up to about 10,500 on the pass of the backside of South Lake This up towards Sawmill Pass in the Owens Valley We also visited the Manzanar Memorial along the 395. This was the camp where anyone associated with Japanese ancestory during WW II was "relocated". Very interesting place. After visiting the museum there and reading of all the emotions that went thru everyone, then and now, I thought this American Flag, placed at the entry to the cemetery, was quite ironic Another epic trip with the boys!!! Re: Sierras Trip - Bassin' & Troutin'
Ed,
Thanks for the report and I'm glad to hear you guys had a great time. The bass look pretty healthy and not a bad size for the ponds. I se you're not the only bass guy in the family,LOL. Those are some really nice looking trout also. The photos are great That camera you have rocks. Very, very nice pictures. Hopefully, I'll get up there later this year at least once for a week and do some fishing. How is Parchers Resort? I've seen pictures when it was snowed in and it still looked like a pretty nice to stay. Talk to you soon, Perry

Re: Sierras Trip - Bassin' & Troutin'
Thanks guys, it was another fantastic trip!
Parchers is really nice and they run a first class operation. The cabins are pretty cool and are located only 5 minutes from the lake. As for taking photos up there, it's pretty hard to go wrong with the scenery and vistas. Just point and shoot! We did get a good topwater bite, for both bass and trout, but the wind was a pain most days in the Owens Valley. Our best topwater bite was the first day and lasted all day & evening because of the cloud cover. In fact our best topwater days up there have been in the middle of the day, during monsoon season, with the heavy cloud cover and rain falling. I am still sorting thru about 400 photos, more at the following link. Run the Slide Show for full sized photos: http://seatech.photosite.com/Fishing2005/Sierras2007/ Ed

These are radical, best i have seen. Don't know how they are using but look real. Where can you get them in Oklahoma? Neither Academy or BassPro carry them. In fact they show no dealers in Oklahoma.

Re: Sierras Trip - Bassin' & Troutin'
Those photos are terrific! Even an underwater shot! What kind(s) of camera are you using? Point-and-shoot or SLR? I'm a photographer myself, so I'm curious.
BTW, I'm also a parent (of 6, now all grown), and I wanna tell you that what you're doing with your boys is wonderful. They're gaining an appreciation for nature, a sense of awe at its beauty, that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Keep it up!
