Sebastes has a spectacular aura about
Default Hello, first post

First I would like to say hello to everyone. Hello.
I recently got my first kayak. It is a 10' pontoon kayak and that is all I know about it. Everything in my house is a mess and I can't find the guy that I bought it froms phone number to ask him. Can anyone tell me what this is?

I'm trying to find out who makes it. I searched on the web, but can't find anything like it.
I live in Humboldt County and have not taken it out on the bay yet. Where I live, we have canals that come off our back yards, the canals lead to the bay. I have taken it out yestarday (5/7), and today (5/8) through all the canals, but have not yet found it comfortable to brave the bay. Both days I made it right to mouth of our canals but could not go out side it.
I love to fish and need to get a lot of extras for that.
Thanks for any info you can provide,
Chris

I was waiting to see if anyone else knew what brand it was, cause it sure don't look familiar to me. Is it plastic or glass? It has a mount for a motor on it also? Hank paddles a pontoon by Kiwi, maybe it may ring a bell with him. They also have different watercraft up in Canada than we have here also, maybe it's a foreign job that got brought here. If it's glass, I would guess someones garage or small shop, if it was rotomolded out of plastic, probably a larger company made them because of the cost of the molds.

For not being answered, you asked something most people wouldn't know about unless they had seen one for some reason. There just isn't that many pontoons being used today like the one you have. My answer didn't help much but it's all I have to offer, sorry.

Looks like you are north end of Eureka. I lived several years in Bayside but never had a kayak there. Have you asked the folks at ProSports?

seaslug,
Actually I am on the south end of Eureka. King Salmon is about 2 miles south of Eureka. We are still considered Eureka though. I was in Pro Sports yestarday (5/9) and I was talking to the guys but nobody was familiar with it there either.

PerryC,
It is plastic. It does have a motor mount and I have been looking at motors, but what kind of motor would work there? I don't want to be twisted around to control it. I was thinking motorguide wireless but I would need a large cash settlement to afford one of those.

Thanks for the replies
Chris

Chris,
I did see where a guy cut down the shaft of a trolling motor and made it fixed, then he had to come up with a means to steer it though. Too bad you couldn't mount it in front and have it pull you along instead of push you. Maybe that would be easier?

I don't have a clue, probably East Coast, there weird there. I'm going to have to get up to your neck of the woods, as it looks like good fishing. Maybe later this summer.

I found out it is an old Kiwi MENDACINO, but has since been remodeled and renamed the ANGLER. Thanks for the efforts.

Thumbs up Re: Hello, first post

Sebastes,
After looking at the newer kiwi kayaks, it definitely looks like one of the earlier ones. The original Ocean Kayaks that are made from glass look very different than the current one out now also. They just look as streamlined as the current ones do. Here is a video of the newer kiwi's I found on the 'net with a trolling motor on it no less. Are you going to power yours also?
