Default NB report w/pics

Had a little window of opportunity to get out last week and fish Newport Beach until sunset. Launched at about 5pm and fished until about 9ish. Headed out of the harbor and south a bit toward the kelp beds. Fished the Alumina pretty hard loaded with 8lb maxima.

Met up with a couple of friends down the way and proceeded to whack the Sandies and Calicos.

Fished one of my favorite baits, Kreepy Krawlers, loaded up with a nice coat of UniButter. If you haven't had a chance, butter up your favorite bait and give this stuff a shot. It really works well.

Here is a shot of one of the larger Sandies.

Swamp,
Thanks for the report and congrats on the fish. It's good to see you got to give the Marauder-XF a workout, I'm really stoked with mine. They did a really nice job on them. I like the logo you guys use for your team also. It looks like one of the carvings of a salmoid, like the one the Native Americans used to do that lived by the coast. It's pretty cool

If you don't mind me asking, is there a place locally that carries those Kreppeys at? I've been looking at some of the Yamamoto's, but would like to try the Haddocks if I could. Thanks in advance,
Perry

Perry,
I'd check out Taka's Bait and Tackle on Lincoln. They should still have them. If not Turners usually carries them, at least the one on Brookhurst. If not, the Walmart on La Palma carries Arkie Jigs, which is almost an identical bait.
Here is a picture of the Arkie packaging.

And a close up of the bait itself. This one is an actual Kreepy Krawler. They are pretty much exactly the same.

If you can see into the packaging, the Arkies have a little more fringe on the sides running down, which is a pretty nice extra feature.

Can you show exactly how to hook them up and what type of hook/leadhead to use?

SS,
Here is the only shot of one rigged that I could find.
This is probably right around a 1/2 oz red leadhead.

Thanks for the picture. Do you twitch along bottom or fall and retrieve slow?

Thumbs up Re: NB report w/pics

Steve,
Here is a photo of the way I use them also. The one in the photo is just a regular Cotee lead head about 1/2oz. The Cotee heads come in about 1/4oz to 1 oz, so you have alot of leeway for weights. I just bring it in the nose and out. For techniques, either of those you mentioned will work. I use the twitch first, then if it doesn't produce, I'll try the slow crawl and see if that works better. Some days the fish just seem to want a different bait or presentation.

Good Luck,
Perry
