I'm going to travel with my kayak on top of the car. When stopping for the night at motels, it'll be locked with a chain to the Yakima carriers, which are locked also. Are there any other ways to avoid theft? I'm afraid a thief can cut the chain and ruin my vacation.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have had pretty good luck when traveling to ask the manager to allow you to park at or near the front entrance. We have even been lucky enough to park under the front door awning, right next to the valet area, off to the side for the night. If that doesnt work, ask for a first floor room and park next to your window.

That's what we did; thank you. Also, we put on a chain and pad lock to the roof rack. There is a pad lock made that sounds a siren when moved. Works well.
