Pelican Kayaks?
I'm brand new to the forums and practically brand new to the idea of kayak fishing. I've been fishing rivers and small ponds in MI for all of my life and recently have been watching boats come in (no kayaks) to the docks I've been fishing with stringers upon stringers of walleye. I want out there and bad. A larger boat would be incredibly impractical for me, and a kayak seems ideal. I've been reading for about three days now all about kayak fishing, online and at Barnes and Noble, and can't find any mention of pelican kayaks anywhere other than their site. The Castaway 116 DLX looks like something that I could be happy with, except that the lack of pictures of them outfitted or mentioned on any of the fansites has me a wee bit leery. One of the main things that attracted me to them in the first place was seeing http://www.islandhopperoutboards.com...ayakmount.html this as an addition, which would be incredibly useful for me as I usually only have two to three hours on a river. However, after that initial link, I've found nothing about them other than ads. If anyone has had any experiences with these kayaks, or could suggest something in a similar price range for a 6'5" 220lb male, I'd love to know. Thanks, Ian |

Re: Pelican Kayaks?
Pelicans are not popular because they are far inferior to fishing specific kayaks such as those made by Ocean Kayak, Malibu Kayaks, and several other brands. Your Kayak Fishing experience will be far more enjoyable with a kayak that was designed with fishing in mind; especially when the manufacture also makes the best paddling boats.
My advise, Stick to the big 4 manufactures. And I would avoid motors, they tend to be more hassle then they are worth. if you want a motor get a small jonboat. But if you really want a motor go with a Malibu kayak and their motor mount. Save some money for a little longer and spend the extra 100.00 for a Pro Explorer. it is similar but much better. And Remember that Kayak fishing Supplies can professionally rig your boat and ship it to a Hub near you for 50 bucks.
