Default The New Deal - SCI 6/27 - 6/28

Got an invite from the Lawman to hit SCI with BigD and Hobie Tom in search of bruiser bass. We met up at Oceanside harbor Friday morning and boarded a beautiful 50' Michelson Sport Fisher owned by Lawman's friend George.

Locked and loaded...

Lawman showing us the right dock...

The arrival...

DAY 1: After setting up shop at Fish Hook Bill, Tom and Marty struck out north along the lee side. Andy and I decided to head south around the point to the boilers around Pyramid.

HBD. Bummahs...

Big foot with the hot stick...

Andy wrestling a beast from the boilers...

Survey says...

The smile says it all. Andy with his new PB, 7-15.

Cave monster that put Andy's big 5 over 30lbs for the day...

DAY 2: Awoke to calicos blasting bait in our backyard. Andy and Tom had both hoisted a couple before I could even launch. We all slowly started working our way along the coast back towards Pyramid.

The armada...

Hobie Tom in tight...

Bill in his kayak?

Surf had picked up slightly and had a little more south mixed in. This wave's bigger brother almost ate Andy for breakfast...

Unscathed he shook it off and simply picked up where he left off the day before...

Just trying to keep pace...

Looking for the one that got away the previous day...

We had hoped to get some time in at China Point and up the windward coast, but decided not to push the mothership's engines any more than we had to. Andy, Tom and I rounded Pyramid and thought about making the paddle but the building swell was going to make it difficult to effectively fish the southern coast. We decided to head back to the boat to stretch our legs and grab a quick lunch, after which we worked north along the lee side.

Hobie Tom kicking off the second shift...

Did not find huge numbers up the lee side but the quality was there. As the sun started to dip behind the island and casted shadows the bite picked up.

Hunchback of SCI...

Same fish, my new PB 8-1. Fish had been speared/gaffed and some point in its life and lived to tell...

From the same cave Andy pulled his fish from the previous day...

Heading for home...

Boat-B-Q. We all ate well the whole weekend...

Hobie Tom thinking about upgrading...

Happy ending...
