Default Home Made Safty Flag

Well I decided that $30. was a little much for a flag and decided to make one. I had a broken VHF antenna lying around and thought this looked like a perfect flag mount. I cut it down to 4' and cut out the end to fit in a Scotty flush mount rod holder. This holder also is used for my light when fishing at night. I then install a top, I used a small but cap I had for making rods. For the flag I used was made from an old cheep PFD. I drilled two small holes in the pole and through wired loops with SS wire that I use for plug making. I then used large split rings to attach the flag to it. I am waiting on some 3M tape and will add some to the flag and the yak.

I'll sometimes just clip a bright yellow or orange flag with a small snap to one on my extra rods in my rod holders. This puts your flag about 8ft high and makes it very visable without adding any extra poles and stuff on your yak. Also mylar party streamers bunched together on a snap reflects lots of light and gets attention.

Not a bad idea guys. I can't tell you how many times I have had idiots in sailboats and powerboats head straight for me like they didn't even see me, and
my Tarpon 140 is mango colored. It sticks out like a sore thumb! I guess anything you can do to make yourself more visible is a good thing.
