Default Re: Next Stop Newport! July 30th

Sorry for the extremely late posting of this information. In addition to below, Anglers can park on Bayside. The problem has just been that there hasn't been available parking recently. Thus John's arrangement with the Dunes. Any questions can be directed to jeupchurch@earthlink.net

Attention all Fishing Tournament participants:
The final countdown has started for the annual Kayak Only Bay Bass Classic in Newport Harbor. As of Wednesday we have 75 participants signed up to fish, we may make the limit of 100. Due to the high number of participants, parking has become a huge issue for our tournament (we have plenty of parking back at the store for lunch). So, we have had to implement plan D.
Thanks to the really nice folks down at the Dunes Marina we will be able to park a large number of cars in their parking Lot. The only down side to this is their parking area is at the end of Bayside Drive about a quarter mile from the launch site. The way we will handle this is everyone will pull into our parking area, where we will have a large staging area where you can off load your boat and your equipment. Then you will drive down to the parking area and walk back over and prepare to launch. I know this sounds like a hassle, but it is the fairest solution we could come up with and the walk isn’t all that bad.
I know we have a few folks who would have a difficult making the walk, we do have a limited number of parking spaced for you up at the staging area.
To account for the extra time spent in the short shuttle and walk you may want to plan on coming about 15 minutes earlier. Check in will start at 5am. If you arrive before we do, please park on Bayside and wait for us to get there.

And yes, I’m sure some of you would volunteer to park at the Coast Guard Station but we cannot allow this as other may feel it would give you an unfair advantage. Everyone will need to launch at the bridge.
