Default Thieves in La Jolla Beware!!!

I always thought that La Jolla was a good neighborhood and that you didn't have to worry about thieves there but boy was I wrong!!! So I went down to fish La Jolla yesterday. I got a later start and didn't launch until 7:30am. The launch was easy with step over size waves but bait was hard to make. I could only make 4 pieces of bait and they were spanish, no greenbacks for me. As I'm making bait I see about 400 yards away the ocean erupt with about 1/2 a football field size of yellows boiling on bait. I quickly peddle to the boils only to have them sink out as I get close enough to fire a jig at them. This happens a few more times with the yellows always just out of range and then they're gone. I pin on a bait and start to make my way out to deeper water were I can see birds diving. As I'm working my way out I get an alarm that thieves are trying to steal from me. The alarm sounded something like ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ and it would not stop. After 10 or so minutes and few long runs I caught this guy trying to steal from me and for his troubles he got the hook.

So be careful there are plenty of these thieves out there right now. I was off the water by 9:30 for a nice quick session. He went just over 20#.
