First Yellow and on the Iron
Andy made the call on Sunday afternoon La Jolla. Went light two rods with 40lb, 4 jigs and a pack of frozen squid. Got to the launch at 4:45 am and headed out in small surf with a mild offshore man it was dark. Tried a few spots trying to keep Andy in sight at one point Andy came paddling by and Oops not Andy, now it was starting to get light and paddled back toward the inner corner. Though I saw the 2 Matt’s so headed that way said hi and kind of drifted with them when they all hooked up headed in different directions looked and saw people bendo all over. Stayed where I was which was alone now in the corner. Saw some marks on the bottom and bounced the jig up and down then supper bendo and I it was on. Looked around to find I was all by myself going in circles. I have caught yellows from boat on paddies but never from the kayak and this fish was pulling hard and with no buoys or kayaks near I took my time the rod doubled over slowly working the fish up got to color it was bigger than any paddy fish I ever caught. Got the gaff ready the yellow decided to make another run then that was it gaffed and in my lap WOW! Fat yellow defiantly a PB. During the fight my FF quite working and with the fish on the kayak I paddled around saying high and watching others fight fish. Headed in at 9 with Andy and Gabe with my 25lb yellow first on the Iron and first on the yak what a great day on the water. At the beach talked to a lot of others that all got nice fish …………………….
