Default March 27th...30 knot winds at Newport

Just got word that winds were brutal at Newport yesterday. Three sculls from UCI were reportedly damaged, one worth an estimate $30,000, dumping 24 athletes in the water. Several ending up with hypothermia. Maybe not the smartest move to challenge the winds but chalk it down as lessoned learned. Hopefully all persons involved got through the ordeal in good health.

Hank,
Thanks for the heads-up. The winds have been blowing pretty strong so I'm surprised the scull went out if there was strong winds that day, but I'm glad they made it ok. Hypothermia is some very bad stuff

I'm sure their coach is in the hot seat for that call. Safety Safety Safety!!!

While we're on the subject of safety, check out this float plan I posted a while back.
