Bill Poole Memorial Angling Tournament
Need kayakers.
Just wanted to let SoCal yakkers know about a tournament coming up next weekend that benefits Hubbs Sea-World Research Insitute...the people who put 1.6 million white seabass back into our waters over the past 22 years. This tournament has a kayak division, and I just checked yesterday, and there are no kayaks entered. It's a low cost, non-money tournament, and since each division winner gets a $500 value David Wirth hand carved wooden sculpture plus goodie bag, t-Shirts, sports bottles, an awesome luncheon (executive chef-prepared sturgeon fish tacos, abalone salad, etc) ... I'm hoping someone steps up to the plate. It's for a great cause! More information below. Thanks for reading. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 2nd annual Bill Poole Memorial Angling Tournament (formerly known as the White Seabass Benefit Tournament) has been expanded and is coming July 10/11th! Hope you all can come. It's going to be fun! This event is designed to kick off the 2010 angling season with a combination of friendly competition and good clean fun. We also hope it becomes a major source of exposure and support for Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, the folks who’ve released 1.6 million white seabass into Southern California waters during the past 22 years. Fishing The Saturday July 10 tournament has been expanded to include more species: white seabass, halibut, yellowtail, tuna (albacore, bluefin, yellowfin), and dorado. Angler categories include private boat, sportfishing boat, kayak, junior, flyfishing, and top angler. Angler category awards for this low entry fee, non-money tournament include a hand-carved David Wirth Hawaiian Fishhook sculptures worth $500—just for starters. At the Thursday July 8 Captain’s Meeting, pick up your angler goody bags (easily worth more than half the entry fee) as you find out where the fish are and how the experts catch ‘em. Also learn about bait availability, fishing conditions, special awards, final rules and times, and other last-minute tournament particulars. You won’t know unless you go! Banquet The Sunday July 11 Awards Banquet (tickets available separately while they last), held bayside at HSWRI facility at Mission Bay, has already become the stuff of legends. The banquet prepared by one of San Diego’s top executive chefs includes cultured sturgeon fish tacos, abalone salad, teriyaki chicken, and a host of delicious side dishes. During the 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. festivities, the normally-off-limits HSWRI labs will be open for tours: check out tanks of huge broodstock yellowtail, watch miniature yellowtail feed on brine shrimp, see tanks of thumbnail sized halibut, watch cow cod swim and more! There will be incredible raffles and auctions. Here’s a teaser: Calstar rods, Accurate 2 speed, Shimano Tyrnos, Daiwa gear, 5 nights at condo in Belize, $1,000 toward trips on Excel and Royal Polaris, 10-day fall trip on Spirit of Adventure, numerous 1/2 and 3/4 day trips, filet knives, swim fins, night-vision goggles, Aftco gaffs and other itesm, SeaWorld Beluga Whale interaction for 4, Vessel Assist Gold Membership, SeaTow Gold Membership, 2 night hotel stays, sushi class for 10, and much much more! Enter now or find out more information at Marine Life Scientific Research, Ocean Research, Hubbs Sea World Research All proceeds go directly to the white seabass replenishment program. HSWRI is a registered non-profit, your contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law. |
