abu record reel with pole
Im sad to say im selling my Abu Garcia record 50 reel with the daiwa pole
I never got the hang of using a casting reel and I dont want to spend precious fishing time learning to use a reel. The reel was used to practice throwing in the front yard and there are a couple little hard to see scratches other than that its flawless. I used it in salt twice for trolling its been stored with the drag set to the lighest setting The pole is awesome Its a one piece pole that matches the reel perfectly thats why I want to sell them together. $125.00 for both More photo's at Picasa Web Albums - pete - rod and pole |

Re: abu record reel with pole
Bro,
You should keep it if you like it. A baitcaster takes time to learn. Has anyone really showed you how to use it??? In the end if you keep it your really gonna love the better control and drag systems of these fishing rods and reels. Jon |

Re: abu record reel with pole
I know that what my wife said (just keep it)
No one has ever showed me how to use it. I only read up on it through the internet The only reason i like it so much is because the way its crafted. I like well made and engineered stuff.I like the feel of the reel in my hand and the weight. Thats sadly the only reason Also I could use the money |

Re: abu record reel with pole
Would you be willing to try some instruction via the net.????
1. look at the reel and on the right hand side below the star drag is a small round spool tensioner. turn this knob till its barley tight. 2. depress the casting button and let the lure start to fall. 3. tighten the knob till the lure falls slowly (6" to 1' per sec.) At this point you should have some control over the reel and lures. When starting to cast these types of reels don't aim for the moon...... try to just get it 10-20 feet for now. The way I learned is place a 5 gallon bucket in the yard 30ft away and try to hit it. After you hit it a lot try to put the lure in the bucket. I know this sound silly but it will help you to control the spin rate and the action of you rod. Another VERY helpful idea is when casting just swing you rod gently like a slow toss and be sure to follow through. At the same time turn the rod on its side like a top and let the reel spin on its axis. Gravity will pull the line down to the edge of the spool instead of the center where it gets loose and birdnest...... I still birdnest on occasion after 25yrs of using them so pratice and enjoy CUZ... when you got the nice fishy on the line and your in total control your gonna love your casting set up.... good luck and tight lines, Jon |

Re: abu record reel with pole
I agree with Jon. Once I got used to baitcasting reels I hardly ever use a spinning reel anymore except when I fish 6lb line in the bay and in the surf.
That rig looks like a good setup for the 3 b's. (bass, bonito, and barracuda) Casting reels have way better drag systems and control than spinning outfits. For real. It's not even close. Once you get that spool tension knob adjusted like Jon was saying it will be much easier to use. Some baitcasters have centrifigal brakes that can be adjusted as well. My first baitcaster was an Abu 5500C3. I still use it at La Jolla when the bonito come in. Robert |
