NPH at night
Took my younger son and we kayaked upper NPH late Saturday night on a fair high tide. Fished from 7PM to 10PM, but only got one sand bass and one HUGH butterfly ray by the PCH bridge. I didn't know that Plastic Navy had its tournament earlier that day........couldn't make it anyway, but would have been nice to see old friends. If anyone has some tips on fishing the bay at night, please advise.
Appreciate it......... |

Re: NPH at night
Right on. Nice job taking your kid fishing. Newport harbor is my kryptonite, but I can still give you some general tips on fishing at night.
- Fish near lights - Bait fish will congregate in the light, which in turn will attract some bigger predators - Use dark colors if fishing w/ artificial bait - Blacks and reds work good - Use a "noisy" lure that fish will feel in their lateral lines - Spinnerbaits, Crankbaits, Chatterbaits etc.. Good luck

Re: NPH at night
I'll add that I rely more on scents like Uni butter at night. Gulp! works good as well as squid strip trailers. I'll probably be making my first summer evening venture in HH tonight.
