fishfinder gps combos ?
I considering purchasing a gps fishfinder combo the humminbird 161, $299 local walmart. It seems these units would save space in my new hobie quest and require only 1 battery. I plan on fishing the central cal coast. I have used fishfinders before but have never used a gps. I know this will limit the gps to my boat, unlike a handheld which used anywhere but i dont know I have another need for a seperate gps. would appreciate any input pros or cons ?

Re: fishfinder gps combos ?
I have a Lowrance Combo unit on my boat and love it.
Mine has the ability to display many split screen combinations (map, GPS, Sonar, etc...) and customize what each screen shows (water temp, depth, heading, speed, etc...). I have no complaints about a single unit and would do it the same way if I had to install another unit. Ed

Re: fishfinder gps combos ?
Hello,
It's a good thought to get a ff with a built in GPS. I've been emailed this question quite a bit, so it is on anglers minds like yourself. The costs doesn't seem that much for a good quality combo unit either. If you get and install it, please let us know how it works out for you. I'm using the separate ff and gps, but when I upgrade next time, who knows? Perry

Re: fishfinder gps combos ?
I also have a separate GPS with a Matrix 17 ff. I am interested in combo units, but recently I have been looking into the Matrix 47 3D. The 3D element seems like it could be a big plus. Anybody have any thoughts on these, or heard anything from guys who have them?
