New guy here!

Hello guys,

I'm new to the boards and just thought I'd say howdy!

I've been kayak fishing for a couple of years. Mostly from Cabrillo Beach and points north. I haven't fished further south, but it sure sounds like some good fishing. I have a couple of Tarpon 120's. Sometimes my son uses one, or
friends.

I'm thinking about going north to Leo Carrillo tomorrow morning. A bunch of us camped there a few weekends ago and there is a pretty big kelp forest off the south end of the cove. I haven't fished there yet, but I've been thinking about it ever since.

Thanks for all the good tips and great stories!

Tarpon Guy,
:welcome
Welcome to All Kayak Fishing! Boy do you have good taste in kayaks!;)
I paddle a Tarpon 140. There are some way cool people here that love to fish and they are pretty good at it too!

Thanks, Robert!

By the way, has anyone fished Leo Carrillo?

I have only fished there from the beach in the Winter. I understand it can be good fishing there in the yak. Kelp beds near by. Check out the post we made about "A most epic trip to Leo Carillo"

Wow, what a table!

I was there with eleven others and had a similar experience with the wind. There was also a weird cross swell. The waves were 5 and 6 feet coming every few seconds. I was surprised because the surf report didn't mention it. My son and his buddy thought they could get the yaks out. They got pounded for about 20 minutes before I finally had to make them come in. Don't know where they get the stubborn streak...ha!

I did figure out that the best way to launch is to drive back on PCH and park by a wooden stair. It leads down to the beach just south of the rocks. It seems to be the smallest surf there. Otherwise, if you park in the big parking lot and go through the tunnel, you'd have to hump the yaks pretty far south to get to the same place.

It is a great campground. We have been talking about getting a bigger mob together next time and maybe play some beach football.

Boy, I can't get that seafood table out of my mind :thumbup
