Los Al 5-11-07

Lots of choices and firsts today.
First off where to go
Cabrillo ?
Cherry ?
Los Al ?
Huntington Harbor?
Newport ?

Well I ended up with Los Alamitos bay. Had some good intel (thanx Randy) that backside of the bay was producing well last weekend, so I gave a shot.

Launched @ 930 from Mothers Beach and made my way to the bigh 2nd street bridge. Tide was out going. Wind kept doing 180's Fished until 3.

Tryed out some bass baitcasting combo (theres a first) from Sport Authority. Made it through the day with only 1 major birdnest that required to cut the line.

On to the report
1 st cast hook up (thats a first)on a short Spotty

20 minutes later hook up on a short diamond turbot (thats a first) - PLEASE CONFIRM SPECIES

@ 1200 HUGE bait ball showed up on Naples Side of bridge, didn't do anything for me though

On Shore wind picked up - White caps and lots of foam were being driven in. Didn't make it to the past the yacht club or gas pumps. Looking for cover turned into the docks by JOE's Crab shack.

Picked up a Butt (theres another first ) @ 230 - PLEASE CONFIRM SPECIES
Next cast picked up a Sandie

Great job, all fish counted and properly identified. The only thing wrong was we weren't on the water with ya.

Considering the wind it was good and as mentioned fish IDs correct. Haven't fished Los Alamitos in 30 years plus - will have to try it again.

Re: Los Al 5-11-07

Congrats on the fish :thumbup We headed to San Diego today, and in retrospect we should have fished local. The chartreuse/Lime color is a very good color to start off in bays with, for alot of us that's the first one we try. I usually start with that color, then goto a Ghost Shrimp/White color if thats not getting hit, then a Tomato Red/Black Pepper if neither of the others are working. It's not 100% guaranteed, but it seems if the fish are eating the grubs, one of the three will usually work. Hope this helps,
Perry
