New York Fingerlakes
 

Does anyone out there have any experience fishing the finger lakes in western NY? I live outside rochester and just got a fishing kayak over the winter and I am excited to get it out on the water. I am looking forward to hitting some of the smaller finger lakes such as Canadice, Hemlock, Honeoye and Conesus. May possibly go to Keuka. I fish for pretty much anything that swims. Anyone have any experience on these lakes? Anyone try deep trolling for trout on a kayak?

hi guys, glad to see someone else looking to fish the finger lakes from kayaks. its hard not to have fun fishing the lakes you have mentioned. honeyoye is absolutely loaded with bass. honeyoye also has some good numbers of walleye though they usually run a bit on the smaller side. check the regs for honeyoye i know you can keep bass while fishing through the ice. and i think you can keep walleye over 14". again check the dec regs.

conesus is great too. has a bit of everything. great bass fishing with some monsters. very large pike and even some tiger musky. conesus also has some huge walleye but are kind hard to catch.

canadice and hemlock are great for kayakers. no houses or boat traffic. both have good bass fishing. both have trout although ive never fished for them out of the yak yet. might try some lead core trolling for them as soon as the ice is off. dont forget about the gennesee river and the erie canal.

Several people on "kayakbassfishing.com" live/fish in that area. Hope this helps a little and good luck.

Hi Josh.Haven't heard anything from you since you went to the ADKs.How's the fishing?I bought a new Wilderness Systems Pungo 140 in April.Nice yak!I've gone on three wilderness camping and fishing trips in the ADKs.Caught some nice smallies at Lake Lila.Going for the brookies in October.
