Spinning Combo advice?
 

I need some opinions fellas.

I've been researching and am looking into getting a Shimano Sedona reel (either the 2500 or the 4000- not sure which would better suit my needs will mainly be fishing in the bays of southern cali and around the shoreline out of my kayak) paired w/ an Ugly Stick around 7'. It fits my price range of about $100 for a rod and reel.

Other reels I've been eyeing:

Shimano Sahara - 79.99
Symetre - 69.99 clearance for older model


I was at Sport Chalet and the sales guy suggested a Quantum Catalyst PTi

over the similar priced Shimanos- Symetre $100, Sahara $80 and Sedona $60. The Catalyst was $80. He compared the Catalyst to the Sol 2500. He liked the Catalyst over the shimanos because of its bigger drag for a smaller reel. I've read nothing but good things about the reliability of the Shimanos but haven't heard much about the Quantums.

What do you guys think?

Do you really want a size 4000 reel.?

I fish 2500 and sometimes wish I had a 1500 or 2000. There's still plenty of line left after hitting bottom on a 2500. With a 1500 you can put braid, then topshot or attach a leader. You have a 7ft rod that could be reached to reattach a leader.

As far as Shimano goes, great warranty and I'd not get the Symetere. Seems heavier than listed and I had one freeze up with a shovelnose on 6# line.

I'm not too sure about the Catalyst, but do know that some Quantums have a magnetic system. That system says it's zero reverse, but it does move back before the magnet engages.

Gl with it and hope you get a lot of fish with what you get

Okuma makes an Awesome Spinning real and they are cheap. Id look at some of their models.

I've had really good results with the Pflueger spinning reels that I own- they aren't the cheapest ones on the market,(the trion and asaro models are about the middle of the line) but they have been very reliable and the combos they offer are very well balanced.

fished the sahara for trout and bass and it did decent

I like Pflueger spinning reels. Pflueger President is a good choice for you.

thanks for your article, i would appreciate if you saw new methods like Best spinning reel. This would be beneficial for you.
Being truthful to myself and you as well I will tell you that the spinning reel is by far the best among these reels.Using a spinning reel you can smoothly cast over long distances.

Before buying a spinning reel, you have to fix your fishing location because fishing reel must be chosen on water conditions. If you want to go in saltwater fishing you can try Shimano. But if you want to fish in fresh water, choose Penn Battle or Daiwa Lexa spinning reel. You can have this by spending 100dollars. Use a 8" rod with your fishing reel. All these fishing gears might cost around 150 dollars.
